Bowling for Fun(ds)

July 28, 2010

As animal trainers, our main concern is for the animal’s health and safety. We learn about their natural history and take that into account during all of our interactions.

Many people have become aware of the Gray Wolf’s natural history recently because of the decision being made whether it should remain an endangered species in the United States. To the wolf trainers at Busch Gardens, it doesn’t matter whether or not they are an endangered species. We want to do everything possible to help protect Gray Wolf populations in the wild. That is why we’re setting up the first annual Conservation Fund bowling fundraiser, Spare Wolves 2010.

Come out with your friends and bowl for a good cause. For $20, each bowler gets three hours of unlimited bowling, bowling shoes and bowling ball. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to wolf projects sponsored by the Conservation Fund. In the past, the Conservation Fund has donated money to facilities such as the California Wolf Center for the Mexican Wolf Fund and the Wild Canid Survival and Research Center for recovery of the endangered Mexican gray wolf (Canis lupus baileyi).

Not only will the fundraiser help protect wolves like our wolf packs here at Busch Gardens, it will also celebrate all of the community’s animal advocates. If you’d like to come participate, please do.  Play a few games, and even meet some of our Ambassador Animals for a great photo opportunity. Make sure to come, it will be a howling good time.

To register either stop by the wolf area in our park or email The event will be held on August 21 at Classic Lanes in Newport News, Virginia. It will take place between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. We hope to see you there.
