Want to Train a Wolf?

July 19, 2010

The number one question running through our guests minds during our show at Wolf Haven is, “How do they train the wolves?” It’s a very intricate process that takes lots of patience and consistent behavior. However, it’s well worth it in the end and actually a lot of fun.

Instead of actually telling you how we train them, we would like to show you. We’d like you to train one of our wolves so you can understand the process. Join us on the Wolf Training Up-Close tour for one-on-one training with a Gray Wolf that you’ve only dreamed about. Sounds cool, right?

Everyday, at 12:15 p.m. and 2:15 p.m., one of our expert trainers and one of our beautiful Gray Wolves spends a portion of their day with our guests. This tour will give you the opportunity to learn about training techniques, watch a training demonstration of a behavior “in progress,” and top it all off by coaching you through a behavior. You will ask a wolf for a behavior, react according to what you’ve learned, and then get to show your appreciation by throwing them a treat.

So make sure to come visit us at Wolf Haven to hang out with us and our wolves. Your enjoyment and interest is in turn helping our planet. A portion of all tour proceeds goes to our non-profit organization, The SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund, which donates millions of dollars to fund eco-projects all over the world.

Come out and learn how to train a wolf today. And who knows, maybe it will work on your friends too.

Want to win a free wolf tour? It’s time for a trivia question. The first person to name all eight of our wolves wins a tour for two. Reply to this blog in the comment section and remember to include your name and email address. First one to do so correctly wins. Good luck.

oh my gosh! This is Jessica’s mom, Laurie. Jessica is 10, and has loved wolves for several years. She draws them, pretends to be one, and plans on having one “when she gets in college”! We happened across a TV animal show that mentioned and showed the clip of wolves from Busch Gardens. Jessica freaked out! She has now great plans to come visit.
Are the wolves available year round? We are in Texas, so would have to plan a trip…any ideas and tips you could offer to make her experience wonderful would be very helpful. We would like to see her follow her dream, and your devotion to wolves is the start! thanks.
