Continuing to Go Green

May 6, 2010

In past blogs, I have highlighted our Green efforts in the park, from recycling to energy conservation. This week I am finishing up my Green Blogs, by talking about Water Conservation at the worlds most beautiful, or should I say resourceful, theme park.

Take a walk around the park and look for the markers near all storm drains, reminding team members and guests which drains lead to the Rhine River. This ensures no one dumps chemicals or other harsh liquids, which could in-turn, pollute and effect our environment.

One of the most interesting steps we have taken to ensure we are being as resourceful as possible is the water re-claim tanks at Curse of DarKastle and other areas throughout the park. These specially designed tanks collect the condensation from the air conditioning units. The tank at DarKastle can hold 2,000 gallons of water.

This tank is normally full during the peak summer months, and is used by our mobile landscaping water carts and grounds maintenance power washing carts. So the air conditioners fill the tanks with their condensation, and our landscapers use that water to water our plants.

I love what your parks do in terms of water conservation. Do you share your water saving techniques at any conferences, etc.?
