It is with sadness and regret …

April 22, 2010

It is with sadness and regret that we announce that our expectant Clydesdale mare, Panola, gave birth to a stillborn foal on Thurs., April 22. Exact cause of death is unknown and a necropsy will be performed. Results will take approximately three weeks. Panola had a thorough examination earlier today by park veterinarian staff and is in good health.
Panola, as well as our other Clydesdales are expected to resume normal activities and be available to greet guests this weekend at the Highland Stables.

This is a difficult time for the park’s Highland Stables Clydesdale team.

So sorry to hear about the foal. Today is my birthday- it would have been such a neat thing to share a birthday with a sweet baby Clydesdale. My condolences to all of you- it is so difficult to lose an animal when you love them so much.

Sorry to hear about this…we were recently there and saw how attached the staff is to the animals.

I am so very sorry to hear this news!!!!!!! I was looking forward to seeing a Clyde foal at Busch this year.

However, I am very happy that Panola is in good health.

I send my condolences to the Highland Stable staff.

Jingles for Panola and her connections. Such a disappointment after waiting so long to see baby.

I’m sorry to hear this. Sadly its something that happens, not always something that could have been prevented. I hope everyone, animal and human alike, are doing ok.

We seen Panola the weekend before this happened. She is such a sweet horse. I hope she is doing alright. Did you ever find out what happened to the foul that it died?

I am very sad to hear that Panola lost her foal, what a tragedy. I am sure that you all are quite sad and devastated also. We were all looking forward to having a baby Clydesdale at Williamsburg. I hope that this tragedy will not deter you but instead, keep the faith, this is only a detour that was not planned, and a stepping stone to gather your collective strength and plan for the next foal; keep Panola healthy so that her future is good and full of promise. This sad news is a chance to pull together to help each other through the sadness and to plan for better times to come. With sympathy, Debra Gillilan.
